Sengoku themed anime for everyone's tastes.

As a matter of fact, since the day I've been made to watch Sengoku Basara (it has Hayami Shou, you need to watch it, or so they said), I have been following pretty much all new series that had to do with Sengoku Jidai, you know, this blessed period before the Tokugawa shogunate when everyone tried to kill each others, and that's how this, somehow very small list, came to life.
Just in case you want to join in.

The most hilarious : Sengoku Basara
Not only is this series my first so it's special but, the actual historical generals were already pretty crazy, the ones from Sengoku Basara are from a completely different level. The plot is absolutely nothing special, it just has to do with beating up the bad guy, what's interesting is how they manage to get along (or not) to do so, given they all want to be the best and get rid of each others and all have a really peculiar personality. (Special mention for Akechi Mitsuhide)
Very, very, VERY loosely historically accurate but it is hilarious.

For fanservice amateurs : Sengoku Otome : Momoiro Paradox
That anime is "adapted" or I should probably say inspired from a pachinko game, which has obviously aroused suspicion in me but in the end, for an anime dealing with time warp that transformed all Sengoku generals into girls it's actually quite entertaining. Much more entertaining than Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls, which is another fanservice series.

The most accurate : Hyougemono
As you may or may not know Hyougemono is about Sasuke a teapot crazy guy who might be a complete invention, as well as some quite colorful happenings of the series, among the ones I have seen it's still the most historically accurate. Especially concerning the interactions between the different characters. Might be quite boring if you're not into it though.

The one you shouldn't watch unless you're a fujoshi and even if you are it's hard to bear sometimes, but it has big boobs so men can find something they like too and you probably should just read the manga if you're that interested because at least it has more perverted jokes and panels : Brave 10
I don't even know what to say about that one except that, while it got better after episode 6, you still should avoid it. But it has my favorite version of Sanada Yukimura ever so ...

My ultimate favorite : Sengoku Basara : the Last Party.
I'm cheating a bit because that one is the movie following up on the second season of Sengoku Basara but it happens to be the most hilarious of the series. The craziest one. The one with the better ED. The one with the better death, because only that series can make characters die not only once but twice and all of them completely epic. Also the one with my favorite death ever. And my all time favorite nabe scene. And, as usual, a seiyuu fest.

I still couldn't find the proper ED but, well, close enough?

The Battle of Hitotoribashi

For those who have watched this week's episode of Sengoku Basara you may have found the flashback between Masamune and Kojuurou to be extremely cute and heartbreaking, you also may have been a little curious about that Hitotoribashi Battle they were talking about.

I was curious so I did my researches, and here is the result (because obviously, the Wiki article sucks ^^)

Let's sum up quickly to start.
Location : In the North of Japan, around the city of Nihonmatsu
Date : 1585
Opponents : Date (with 7 000 men) against Hatekeyama (30 000 men)

Everything started when Hatakeyama Yoshitsugu captured Date Terumune, Masamune's father.
Obviously Masamune wasn't happy at all at the idea, took some men and ran to his help, without much luck, even if they were victorious Terumune died during the fight.

The real battle of Hitotoribashi took place a little later, after the death of his father Masamune wasn't happy at all, so he and a few samurai decided to siege the castle of Nihonmatsu.
Despite the large discrepancy in the number of men in each side neither won.

One year later, Date's forces siege the castle once again, this time resulting in a victory for Date's side and the setting on fire of said castle by Hatakayama Yoshitsugu's son.

Sengoku Basara episode 4

Just finished to watch Sengoku Basara 4, most of the episode was boring though, seriously, Oichi and me, we're definitely not friends.

Last week we left Yukimura camping and hearing things.
Photobucket

Got pissed off, since god hearing dead people is creepy, so he decided to go raid the Azuchi castle nearby and this is what he discovers
Photobucket

Unfortunately Oichi's ghost still holds a grudge against him, after all he killed her beloved brother (o_O) and so she tries to kill him.
Photobucket

Even if he still doesn't feel like hurting a girl he tries to survive and actually fight against her. Philosophical talk ensues with another "ghost" (both are not dead, just so you know)
Photobucket

During that time Masamune got his consciousness back after his fight against Hideyoshi.
Photobucket

Despite having epicly lost he's still alive thanks to his beloved subordinates, I suppose you want to know why Hideyoshi was merciful for once, it's simply because Keiji pleaded for his life in the same way in the past, so cute.
Photobucket

During that time Hanbei and Motonari are signing alliance treaties.
Photobucket

Their main goal is indeed Motochika nearby, which makes me hope for an upcoming fight in the next episodes.
Photobucket

See, told you it wasn't interesting.

Sengoku Basara episode 3

Now let's move on to Sengoku Basara episode 3, last week Masamune was loosing and the Maeda clan minus Keiji (whose crest looks like Akechi's waaay too much for me ^^) was moving toward Echigo to challenge Kenshin.

Photobucket

As expected Keiji totally doesn't agree, can you believe it, his beloved Matsu-nee chan is siding with Hideyoshi?! (well the couple sided with Nobunaga before so no surprise ^^)
And on top of that they ignore Keiji when it tries to stop them, shock desu~
Photobucket

Too bad for you but they encounter Kenshin, who told them they'd better go back to their homeland because he's preparing to invade (and I always feel like saying "she" when talking about Kenshin, wonder why ^^)
Obviously they refuse and Matsu wants to take on Kenshin alone while Toshi goes back home.
Photobucket

Toshi refuses and they go back home together, too bad Kenshin is a good mastermind too, they're surrounded.
Photobucket

Then Keiji comes back since he totally doesn't like being ignored and challenges Toshi becaue siding with Hideyoshi is definitely something he doesn't understand.
Photobucket

And he deafeats him, Matsu is sad, Kenshin is sad, Keiji is sad, you thought Toshi was dead? No he's not.
Photobucket

During that time in Oushuu, Masamune barely managed to keep his land safe from Toyotomi's army, but he lost a lot of men and even if he can make them come back from the dead just by saying Wake up, wake up guys (in Engrish please) it still makes him really, really sad.
Photobucket

Just when he managed to revive his precious men, an unexpected guest arrive : Toyotomi Hideyoshi, challenging Masamune.
Photobucket

During this time Yukimura was running to Satsuma under the orders of his Oyakata-sama while suddenly he heard something, a voice, a voice he know.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry
Yes, the annoying princess Oichi is back, I love her way of fighting and I love her character design but I'd like to behead her myself.

#02

Let's now continue on what I was intending to do with that blog, which is known as anime episode reviews, I don't know yet how long I'll manage to keep this up but who cares?
I can't promise I'll do all the episodes of all the airing series I'm watching, there are waaay too much.

Anyway prepare yourself and let's celebrate the opening of my anime crazyness with Sengoku Basara Episode 2! Also renamed "How to get Masamune-sama to be really, really angry"

The episode starts, everything seems normal, Hanbei and Katakura-kun were "normally" talking (understand that Hanbei tries to headhunt him) when suddenly this happened!
Photobucket

To my opinion pissed off Kojuuro is interesting to watch. The "talk" continue (understand that it became a fight already) and then this happened!
Photobucket
Which basically cracked me up, for some reasons it's totally something I expected from Hanbei. Did I mentionned I already love him? Once again that was something I expected he is the psycho of the serie after all. (well for the new people over there my overall favorite character of the serie is Akechi Mitsuhide ^^)

After a while of talking/fighting/flirting Hanbei finally defeat Kojuuro and kidnapp elope with him
The plan was indeed to abduct Kojuuro in order to reduce Masamune's fighting abilities (because we all know that the only thing he wants is to party)
In any case the enemy attacks obviously at that moment.
Go bring Kojuuro!
Masamune-sama! Katakura-sama has disappeared!
Photobucket
WHAT??
Photobucket
This is indeed a problem, what will we do??

And during this difficult times, how is life in Echigo?
Photobucket
Keiji, Kenshin and Kasuga eat Kasuga's homewooked meal and drink sake (while discussing strategies, they're warlords after all)

Getting back to Oshuu pissed off Masamune throw himself in the battle, thus encountering psycho evil Hanbei whose plan has been to piss off Masamune all along, because we all know that pissed off Masamune can't think clearly, thus making mistakes.
And this is an example of what pissed off Masamune can do.
Photobucket
As a result Masamune loose

The episode closes on Yukimura being sent far far away despite wanting to go and help Masamune even after he defeated him so epicly last week.
Also Yukimura has to be really careful around water, Shingen looked like a caring father to Yukimura, that was cute.
