When you're hurt, someone else suffers for you.
I am not going to try and make a summary of something that doesn't really have one, it's not really my point anynway. I am not going to go into the so called symbolism of the series, not because I think there's none but because others have done it already and also because I think it's a bit pointless. I won't try to make sense of it because I don't think it's even supposed to make sense. Why you ask? Because I think that, ironically enough, the answer can be found in psychology and the adventures of BRS are a cooping mechanism.
Let me explain why I think that way and then decide for yourself.
Here is what I think happened, starting with the beginning, Mato is a normal student, sadly, what often happens with normal students, they're very weak to stress. So, obviously, when going to a new school where she knows nearly no one and everything is new, Mato is suffering from stress.
And there comes Black Rock Shooter.
In my theory, Black Rock Shooter is Mato's badass persona, the strong one she ultimately wants to be but knows she never will. Kind of her heroine, the one she imagines the adventures of before sleeping, or whenever she has a free moment, at school or wherever.
Everything can be linked to that. Absolutely everything. Remember the evil macarons?
If you think about it, these macarons were used as a weapon in her dream because they have been in reality. But in reality they're harmless, a treat, that's why Mato justify the fact she's been shocked and actually hurt by those and how Kagari gave them by using macarons as a weapon in the awesome realm of BRS awesome adventures.
In that realm she saves Yomi from Kagari and from herself, because I think she feels bad for intruding so much on their lives, she justify her somewhat bad actions by beliving she saves them. And really, didn't Yomi want to be saved? Didn't Kagari want to be saved? Didn't they scream for help?
Thinking about it like that, Mato becomes a heroine and everyone forgets she was nearly a stalker.
That's where Mato's saviour complex really starts to develop, it's exactly as they say, when you're helping people you forget about your own self, technically and even if it will backfire, someone else is suffering at your place.
I know what you're going to ask, what about Saya/Black Gold Saw?
Easy, Saya is a psychologist, Mato did tell her about BRS, then, wouldn't it be logical that she knew what was going on?
Whether or not she realizes it Mato knows that Saya knows, Mato knows what Saya does, she knows how she can control the students by saying exactly what's needed.
They want to be saved from despair. They're desperately looking at the light to be saved, to be helped by a person they're trusting. What does that person do? Make them cry, betray them.
That's where the saviour complex kicks in. What kind of heroine would BRS be if she doesn't help them? How can she save herself if she doesn't help them?
And this, my friends, is what I think is BRS all about, a simple metaphor born from Mato's brain, not necessarily only in her dreams, a transformation of her everyday life in a much more exciting and bearable adventure because, in the end, even if it's only in her imagination, someone suffers at her place.
(See how the rest of the anime will prove me wrong XD)

Winter 2012 - What will I watch?
Suddenly I realized Un-Go was already at its Ninth episode and that in two weeks it'll be already finished. Where did my Fall go? (Granted, it doesn't feel like Winter at all yet but nevermind)
As such I thought it was about time to decide more or less about what I'll watch next season. (Instead of working on my Anime Blogger Choice Award post, damn procrastination ^^)
On my watch list for sure!
- Kyousougiga : In the hopes of finaly getting what it is all about I shall watch it.
- Black Rock Shooter : I liked the OVA and I'm curious about how they'll continue the story and how they'll balance the two worlds.
- Another : Horror story? Yes please!
- Nisemonogatari : Love Bakemonogatari a lot so I'll obviously watch this.
And they look like they're wearing a fried egg on the promo picture so ...
- Natsume Yuujinchou Shi : Well, it's Natsume Yuujinchou! <3
- Brave 10 : Sengoku Jidai is always a must. And I heard it had Kamiya so ...
Will at least check out (and probably end up watching anyway)
- Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou : Well, I usually trust Sunrise when it comes to adapting gag manga (*cough*Gintama*cough*) BUT I really don't want to see Kimi to Boku n°2 and Sunrise is either really good or painfully average so we'll see.
I think something's wrong. Usually my first list has at least 10 shows, I'm at 7, and I don't even know what's continuing.
Well, guess I won't have to feel guilty and suppress my urges to check more things when the season will start

Black Rock Shooter
After more than one year of desperate waiting, or at least on my part. I never had much interest on Vocaloids and the likes but the day I saw the trailer I was already in love, and it's finally there.
Everything started someday, in an island far, far away.
There was a girl, her name was Black Rock Shooter.
There was another girl, she was a normal girl, running in order not to be late for her first day of school, her name was Mato Kuroi (who also happened to be voiced by one of my favorite seiyuu, Kana Hanazawa, who did a wonderful job)
Mato met another one on her way to school, she was a normal girl, her name was Takanashi Yomi (who, strangely, happened to be voiced by another one of my favorite girl seiyuu, Sawashiro Miyuki, who also did a wonderful job)
During that time, in the far far away island, BRS was doing some sight seeing
In the real world, Mato finally gathered enough courage to talk to Yomi, thus scaring her a little.
During that time in the far far away island, BRS was still doing some sight seeing
While in the real world Mato and Yomi became best friends
During that time in the far far away island, BRS stopped doing some sight seeing, she started to fight.
In that island there was another girl, her name was Dead Master and she liked to pick fights with anyone coming around to sight see.
While in the real world, Mato and Yomi were still best friends, they exchanged gifts, laughed together and so on.
During that time in the far far away island, someone else is sight seeing.
But Mato and Yomi were not doing the same club activities, thus they had different friends and Yomi started being jealous when Mato started to become closer with the manager of the basketball team, Yuu.
And this is Yuu.
Yomi gets farther and farther away from Mato, and Mato feels lonely.
One day she simply doesn't came to school and Mato can't help but worry about her best friend.
Her mother calls, saying the police is at her place wanting to talk with her, Yomi has disappeared.
During that time in the far far away island, Dead Master finally wins against Black Rock Shooter.
One day Mato receives an empty text message from Yomi, she runs and runs to the place they liked to go together, she found the strap she gave her and something strange happens.
In the far far away island, Black Rock Shooter managed to free herself, scarring Dead Master to death but saving her when she was just about to fall.
However Dead Master doesn't really like the gesture and fall anyway dissolving herself in the void
At her place lies the disappeared Yomi, BRS managed to save her from her "dark side" (or at least that's how I understood it ^^)
BRS appeared to Mato, in order to save Yomi, and they merge together in a single being, claiming she was Black Rock Shooter.
I had to listen to this part a dozen times, the way Kana Hanazawa says "Black Rock Shooter" is just too cute.
The anime closes on Yuu, starting to feel jealous at the returned closeness between Mato and Yomi, then we understand the mysterious other being sight seeing in the other world is somehow connected to her.
Somehow, it makes me hope for a sequel.
All in all this anime was great, pretty, nice music, interesting, just wonderful and totally worth the wait. The actual song wasn't used a single time in the anime though ^^
